The BMW 3.0 CSL was introduced in May 1972, built to homologate the vehicle in order for BMW to enter into the European touring car championship and various other race series during the 1970’s, during which time the company enjoyed great success. BMW claimed victory in the European touring car championship each year from 1975 until 1979 with their fabulous 3.0 CSL. The key to this vehicles success comes from the ‘L’ in its name which refers to ‘lightweight’. With a body constructed from thinner steel along with the use of aluminium for the doors, bonnet and boot lid the CSL weighed in at around 1270 kilograms, over 100 kilograms lighter than the CSI on which this car is based. Produced in very small numbers the 3.0 CSL effectively marked the start of BMW’s ‘M’ division and undoubtedly remains one of the most iconic BMW’s manufactured to date. This example is one of only 402 3.0 CSL of the second series lhd, completely restored from an reknown expert to an exceptional standard in the last three years. Matching numbers, complete and in all points original to lightweight configuration. Very little driven since restoration. If you are looking for the best, this is it.
