Maserati Ghibli 5000SS Spider Conversion Factory.
This car was produced in October 1972 as a coupé and delivered to the Maserati / Rolls-Royce "ROLMA" concession in Milan on 18/12/1972.
Initially motivated by the purchase of the spyder version (whose very limited production had been stopped a year before), the first owner decided to acquire the ultimate cut Ghibli produced after the plant offered him to deliver the all the parts necessary for its transformation into spyder at a specialized bodybuilder in the region. Thus, in view of its conversion, this coupé was sold by the factory with a very rare aluminum hard top (unfortunately disappeared in a fire in 1994).
By unofficial means, Maserati Classiche explains that all the bodies of Ghibli were produced in coupe and possibly "cut" in spyder and reinforced at the level of the frame according to the demand, not in the factory Maserati but in the Carrozzeria Ghia in Turin. This explains why even the so-called "factory" spyder with a * S * in their chassis number resemble those "cut" after the end of their official production because there are some visible size points on both types of cut to the same locations. Finally, it is almost impossible to see the difference between this spyder converted in another carrozzeria of the region at the time and a coupe converted by Carrozzeria Ghia made based on the same parts.
