The Citroen SM was first shown to the public in 1970 at the Geneva Auto Show. The delighted french press called Citroen's all new gran turismo "la reine de la route", the queen of the road. They were fascinated by the design, which was created by Robert Opron. With a top speed of 220 kilometers per hour, the SM was the world's fastest front wheel drive automobile. The groundbreaking Citroen DS was perceived as not being powerful enough. After Citroen had taken over the majority of Maserati, they had the opportunity to pair the new SM with a more elaborated engine. Maserati's chief constructor Giulio Alfieri was assigned to develop a V6 Engine for the SM. The outcome is a car which represents a fascinating symbosis of french and italian engineering. This SM was delivered in April 1971. It is a beautifully preserved example in an outstanding color combination. First interior, first carpets, perfect working order.
